This second character design project shows the process of an own assignment created for school. I chose to focus on character design for a hypothetical D&D campaign; I created a party of five characters, focusing on their skills, their personalities, and the translation of this into a visual character design.

I started the project by drawing some silhouette thumbnails to get an idea of the overall shapes I want my characters to have. I wanted to aim for a well-balanced party with different classes and skills, allowing them to easily navigate through any situation. The final silhouette lineup fits this goal.
Cascadius is a tiefling monk/rogue. He is ambitious, intuitive and selfless. His facial design is supposed to radiate mischief.
Cascadius' clothes have to be dark so he can hide himself in the shadows. At the same time, he has to be able to move well in them. The colors of his clothes are all focused on being dark, with white as a lighter accent to add some contrast to it.
Mireia is a half-orc fighter. She is confident, passionate and reliable. Her facial design is supposed to radiate confidence.
Mireia has to be able to fight in her clothes, but at the same time they have to make sure she doesn't get hit by every attack that comes her way. The colors of her clothes are natural based with silver and golden accents. This is to accentuate her fighter status.
Rosemary is a human sorcerer/druid. She is fearless, insightful and patient. Her facial design is supposed to radiate bravery.
Rosemary's clothes are focused on agility, so they have to be tight around her body to allow her to cast spells well. The colors of her clothes are natural based, using brown and green. The golden accent is to match her hair, as well as to point to her sorcerer class.
Wynrie is a firbolg bard. She is considerate, disciplined and warm. Her facial design is supposed to radiate calmness.
Wynrie's clothes have to be comfortable for traveling, while also giving her some protection against the weather and possible ambushes. The colors of her clothes are natural based, mostly brown with green and blue accents. It works well together with her skin color.
Xavren is a half-elf cleric. He is humble, loyal and reserved. His facial design is supposed to radiate competence.
Xavren's clothes have to offer him enough protection during a fight, because he is the one who has to heal others. His clothes consist of mostly armor because of this. The colors of his clothes are bright, to match the deity he worships. The blue and golden accents create some contrast in his outfit.
In addition to above character designs, I have also drawn their weapons. I initially planned on drawing them wielding their weapons, but due to lack of time I was unable to do so.
If anything, this project has taught me a lot about time management and setting realistic goals for myself. It was much more ambitious at first, and I ended up having to get rid of a lot of ideas in order to get to some sort of finished product. On top of this, I also obviously got to practice a lot with creating meaningful character design, as well as create fitting weapons for characters.
